17 Amazing Ways You Can Reuse Coffee Grounds At Home

While the health benefits of coffee, such as its ability to lower risk of stroke, reduce the risk of type II diabetes, and promote longevity, are well-known at this point,  not everyone is familiar with the wide range of uses of the leftover coffee grounds.  If you are interested in learning more, read on!

1.     Use as a Fertilizer

Adding coffee ground to the soil adds organic matter, which in turn improves water retention, enhances aeration, and helps beneficial microorganisms to thrive.  In addition to this, fresh coffee grounds raise pH level of the soil and serve as an amazing source of nutritive nitrogen.   To use leftover coffee for this purpose, simply work used coffee grounds into the soil surrounding the plants.

2.     Repel Pests

Coffee grounds are extremely effective at repelling garden pests, particularly snails and slugs. To keep these veggie-eaters at bay, simply sprinkle the ground around the garden or create a coffee ground wall about 2 inches wide around the perimeter.

3.     Repel Your Pooch’s Fleas

Bathe your dog, rinse, scrub with coffee grounds, and then rinse again.  This simple trick will help you repel your pet`s fleas.

4.     Use in Compost

Apart from being an amazing natural fertilizer, coffee grounds also strengthen garden compost with trace elements.  The extra phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen content in the grounds helps the plants convert sunlight into energy. 5.     Tenderize Meat

Due to their natural acid content coffee grounds work as great meat tenderizer.  All you have to do is to coat the raw meat with damp coffee grounds in a plastic bag, refrigerate for about three hours, and wash the grounds off prior cooking the meat.

6.     Make Homemade Candles

Instead of buying an expensive candle, craft your own using coffee grounds.  By doing so you will have your kitchen smelling of fresh-brewed coffee all the time!  First, melt a cup of beeswax.  Put the candlewick and a tablespoon of coffee grounds in the base of the glass jar, pour half of the beeswax, and let it harden. Sprinkle a second layer of coffee grounds, pour the remaining beeswax, and let cool.

7.     Deodorize

Put coffee grounds in a small bag and place them on a shelf in the refrigerator to get rid of bad odors.

8.     Exfoliate Your Skin

You can either use them as standalone body scrub, or create a luxurious scrub by using ingredients like coffee grounds, coconut oil, coconut palm sugar, and ground cinnamon.

9.     Clean the Fireplace

Using coffee ground works wonders when it comes to cleaning the fireplace and weight down loose ashes. Simply sprinkle a layer of ground over the ashes prior sweeping them up.  Note that you will need damp grounds for this purpose.

To get rid of stained pots and pans, grimy countertops, and other stains, sprinkle with coffee grounds and scrub the stains off using a steel wool.

As unusual as it seems, coffee grounds add a smoky depth to grilled meats and veggies. Create your own seasoning by combining ¼ cup of coffee grounds, a tablespoon of paprika, a tablespoon of garlic powder, two teaspoons of coconut palm sugar, a teaspoon of oregano, a teaspoon of sea salt,  half a teaspoon cayenne and half a teaspoon black pepper.

15.  Remove Buildup from Your Hair

To exfoliate the scalp, remove build-up, and stimulate hair growth, massage coffee grounds into the scalp while taking a shower.

16.  Get Rid of Dark Circles and Bags

Being a natural diuretic, the combination of coffee ground and coconut oil helps eliminate under-eye circles and bags.  Simply combine the ingredients to create a paste, apply under the eyes, and let it work for twenty minutes before rinsing it off.

You can make your own fragrant ad exfoliating soap infused with coffee grounds!

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup used coffee grounds
  • 8 oz glycerin soap
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp powdered coconut milk
  • Saucepan
  • Muffin tins
  • Ladle
  • Small glass bowl

Instructions:

  • Fill the saucepan with water and then put the glass bowl over the water to create a double boiler
  • Boil the water and the add the soap to the glass bowl
  • Add the coffee grounds to muffin tins
  • Remove the soap from heat once melted and add the vanilla, powdered coconut milk, and coffee grounds
  • Fill the muffin tins with the soap
  • Let cook for a few hours
