Napping Can Dramatically Increase Learning, Memory, Awareness, and more…

Nowadays, certain cities and areas deliberately shut down everything so that people can take a proper nap and reenergize. However, this is not the case in the States and here; people rarely have the habit of napping.

Why Is Napping so Beneficial?

If you don’t have the time to nap, you should definitely make because napping is a regular, normal, and integral part of the circadian rhythm. Namely, our focus and level of energy are not the same throughout the whole day, regardless of how much we sleep during the night. To recharge and restore energy, a simple nap is what we need.

As previously mentioned, companies like Apple and Google allow their employees to take a nap at a specific period of their working day. A lot of medical studies encourage naps because they can better the productivity, performance, and concentration. A study done at the University of Colorado Boulder showed that children who skipped naps had higher risk of lack of joy and interest and health problems like anxiety and difficulty in problem-solving skills.

The same goes for adults. Hence, Berkeley researchers found that adults who have the habit of napping strengthen their memory and learning skills. Napping is known to have a positive effect on the brain and it allows it to reboot and refresh.

How Long Should You Nap?

According to experts, the best nap lasts from 10 to 20 minutes and this nap allows the brain to regenerate and improve its function. Naps shouldn’t be prolonged for more than 20 minutes because the risk of feeling blurry and groggy afterwards increases. For example, if you nap for one whole hour, the body will begin to enter the deep sleeping phase and when you break this phase, you feel more tired than you did before the nap. However, individuals who cannot sleep well or who cannot sleep enough during the night should nap for 90 minutes.

All in all, sleeping has a positive effect on our body and it betters our creativity and thinking capacity. Therefore, take regular, short naps and be careful not to disrupt your regular nighttime sleeping cycle.
