Apple cider vinegar: you’ve probably heard how it benefits your gut and improves your overall health, but did you know that it’s also a powerful beauty ingredient — especially when it comes to your hair?

Using apple cider vinegar (ACV) in your hair might not sound so appealing (you know, with the smell and all). But after you read what it can do for your locks, we think you might feel differently.

Apple cider vinegar is rich in acetic acid, which can help boost the pH of your hair and scalp. A balanced pH on the scalp leads to healthier hair follicles and strands that are grease-free and shiny as can be! Healthier hair follicles mean there’s less likelyhood of build-up on the scalp that can cause hair to fall out and become thinner.

Apple cider vinegar is also a natural antimicrobial, another thing that makes it great for your scalp. Harmful microbes like bacteria and fungi can clog hair follicles, causing strands to fall and hair to appear thinner. A simple rinse of the scalp with ACV can help fight off these microbes and decrease hair fall. Some even say that ACV may help with scalp infections and dandruff!

Using ACV for your hair is pretty simple. All you have to do to make your own ACV rinse is dilute it with water and pour it directly onto the scalp and hair in the shower, or use a spray bottle and spritz is all over your scalp and hair. As always, perform a test patch on your skin to check for adverse reactions. A good ratio to use for an ACV hair rinse is one cup of water with 3 to 5 tablespoons ACV. Saturate your hair and scalp in the shower with the mixture and allow it to sit for 10 minutes, then rinse with cool water. If the smell bothers you, try adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the mix!

We hope you love this super simple hack for healthier, shinier hair.
